OnePlus releases the first Android 10 Open Beta build for the OnePlus 5/5T

The stable OxygenOS 10 update for the two phones is expected to arrive before the end of June.

What you need to know

  • OnePlus has released the first Android 10-based OxygenOS beta for the OnePlus 5 and 5T.
  • The update brings a new UI design and all the other major Android 10 and OxygenOS 10 features.
  • OnePlus 5 and 5T are slated to receive the stable Android 10 update before the end of this quarter.

In October last year, OnePlus promised that it would release the stable Android 10-based OxygenOS 10 update for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T phones in the second quarter of 2020. The company has now rolled out the first Android 10 beta build for the two phones, which suggests the stable update will likely be rolled out before the end of the second quarter.

If you would like to try out the first Android 10 Open Beta on your OnePlus 5 or 5T, you can head over to the OnePlus Community forums and download the appropriate package for your phone. Unlike regular Open Beta builds, however, those who install the beta build will receive OTA updates for future open beta, as well as stable builds.

While you won't lose your data while switching to the stable release, you will have to wipe the data on your device to be able to try out the beta build for the first time. The beta build comes with all the Android 10 goodies and the features that OxygenOS 10 brings to the table.

Both the OnePlus 5 and 5T were launched in 2017 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. Since they have already received one major OS upgrade, Android 10 will be the final OS upgrade for the two phones.
