The best USB-C battery packs you can buy

USB-C and the Power Delivery standard have paved the way for a new wave of battery packs that are both powerful and portable. While there are some massive power banks more aimed at charging laptops or powering devices through long camping trips, I much prefer the lighter chargers that can quickly charge a phone while sitting down for lunch or in my pocket during long days out and about. Whether you prefer your power banks big or small, these are the best ones around!

Phone-sized power

Aukey 10,000mAh Battery Pack

Staff pick

There are USB-C power banks in many shapes and sizes, but this size is my favorite because it's just ever so slightly larger than a smartphone, making it easy to slide into a pants pocket alongside your phone while charging on the go. This model charges at 18W, top speed for most phones.

All-in-one charging

Ventev PowerCell 6010+

Ventev's handy power bank is its own wall charger thanks to folding AC prongs. If you run down the bank while you're out and about, you can plug it in wherever you find a spare plug. There's also USB-C and USB-A cables built in, so you can just grab this power bank and go.

Pocketable USB-C power

Anker PowerCore 10000 PD

Whether you're rushing through an airport or enjoying a late dinner, the last thing you want when traveling is a dead phone. This USB-C bank is easily pocketable, allowing you to quickly top off your dying phone with 18W Power Delivery charging.

Rough and tumble

Zendure A6PD 20100mAh PD Power Bank

Are you hard on your gear? Like really, really hard on your gear? Zendure makes the power bank for you. This rugged bank is big enough to charge all your daily devices and then some, and with 45W Power Delivery input and output, you shouldn't have to plug it for very long.

Full-speed output

RAVPower 20100mAh PD 3.0 45W Power Bank

This beefy bank from RAVPower can output at 45W thanks to Power Delivery charging, but it'll be a little slower to top off as it's Power Delivery input is only 30W. That's still pretty fast for a power bank, and the higher output will be most appreciated when topping off a laptop during a conference.

Big battery bundle

Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD Charger Bundle

Anker is a brand that certainly knows its chargers, and knows how to price accordingly. This bundle includes a 26800mAh — just under the FAA's 100kW limit — that can charge phones or laptops at up to 30W, a 30W USB-C wall charger to replenish the bank, and a USB-C cable to connect them.

If we had to choose

Again, I far prefer smaller portable batteries that actually live up to the name "portable", which is why the phone-sized Aukey 10,000mAh Battery Pack and the compact Anker PowerCore 10000 PD are two of our favorites — and two of the most popular models on the market today. The Aukey is more affordable and its shape makes it easier to accommodate, but some prefer the more narrow but rotund Anker.

Turning to more beefy models, while Anker's bundle is of the highest quality, it's also of the highest price, so unless you already lack a USB-C wall charger, you're probably better off buying the Zendure A6PD 20100mAh PD Power Bank, which is half the price and ultra-durable. Things tend to bounce around in my gear bag, so power banks that are sturdy give me extra peace of mind when my backpack falls off the seat, again.
